Guest Post: London’s Best Burgers by ‘Cause Burgers

London loves a good burger! Though to the naked eye there might not seem to be obvious differences between the dizzying number of places slinging succulent patties in brioche buns, trust us, there is! Navigating London’s burger scene is, in fact, a job in its own right. So we wanted to enlist an expert to offer you a definitive guide to the best burgers in London… and maybe one of the worst too!

Lauren Hughes is the mastermind behind ‘Cause Burgers, the London-based blog dedicated solely to the quest for the best burger in London. Isn’t the name epic for a start?

“Why start a blog?

“… ’cause burgers!”

A former colleague of Patrick’s, don’t be fooled by her petite frame, what this Harrogate native doesn’t know about London’s burger scene isn’t worth knowing! From American imports to local British up-starts, huge chains to tiny shacks, if there’s a new burger to try, you know Lauren is going to be already in the queue before you’ve even heard about it. Of course, Everyone has their favourite, and we definitely have ours, but who better to direct you? Over to Lauren:

🍔My Top 3 London Burger Joints🍔

💣Bleecker St.

For the highest quality meat, you won’t find better than Bleecker St, situated in the iconic Old Spitalfields Market. Top tip: order the bacon cheeseburger, which is packed so full of flavour.

But also, for black pudding lovers (I know there’s some who love and others who loathe the stuff) the Bleecker Black (with added Clonakilty black pudding) will quite literally blow your mind! Also highly recommended: the Bleecker St. Angry Fries with blue cheese and hot sauce.

💣Shake Shack

Whenever I’m in Covent Garden, I stop by Shake Shack and order a SmokeShack. 100% Aberden Angus beef, American cheese, Wiltshire cured smoked bacon, chopped cherry pepper and ShackSauce is such a winning combo that it makes this one of the tastiest burgers in London. I’m also a huge fan of their crinkly cheese fries and caramel milkshakes, no visit is complete with just a burger alone!

💣Patty & Bun

Patty & Bun has – by far – the juiciest burgers in London. But it’s a revelation as, don’t worry, they don’t taste greasy! Simply just delicious and incredibly indulgent, thanks to the generous amounts of smokey P&B mayo and melted cheese. The Smokey Robinson has an epic amount of caramelised onions. Prepare to get through a lot of napkins – but that’s a sign of an epic burger anyway, isn’t it? Read more in my Patty & Bun post where I declare my undying love for their rosemary salted fries.

💥Best for Specials💥

Honest Burgers

Honest has a different special every month and they never disappoint – they’re consistently great and as special as the name suggests! The 2015 Christmas Special involved a gorgeous Ginger Pig beef patty, crispy brie and cranberry sauce. Ummm, in a word: heaven.

My second love is pizza (naturally), so their pizza-inspired burger was another highlight in 2016. I’m always looking forward to seeing what they will come up with next. Bravo!

🎉Best Pop-Up🎉

Le Bun

This year, fun burger connoisseurs Le Bun have kept us all on tenterhooks as usual as their amazing tasting burgers just keep moving ’round the place! In 2016, they’ve taken over Leicester House, partnered with singer Kelis and also have an ongoing residency in Dalston’s Birthdays. Le Bun is a continuously creative burger joint and it’s definitely worth keeping an eye on where they’ll be popping up next.

👎Biggest disappointment👎

Five Guys

To put it mildly… Five Guys is just not for me. Forget about that queue you see forming outside any of their branches, it’s deceptive and so not worth the wait!

Now, I normally write solely about the burgers and their taste, *however* I had to take in the experience here as it did have a big impact on how much I enjoyed the burger. Firstly, the fluorescent lighting. Jesus. It’s brighter and more unforgiving than the lighting on the tube (which I didn’t think was actually possible). Secondly, we spent the whole time batting away little fruit flies that were floating around our food. Yuck. Most importantly (or depressingly), the burger is kinda messy and quite greasy. Read more about my Five Guys experience

💯 Finally… My Fav *EVER* Burger💯

Dip & Flip

If you’re a burger fan and you also love gravy, Dip & Flip is a must visit. Their cheeseburger comes with slices of tender roast beef or lamb and a side bowl of tasty gravy for dipping.

It’s messy but I am so proud to say I’ve never enjoyed a burger more. Good gracious it’s glorious! You’ll find their branches in Battersea, Tooting, Wimbledon and Brixton. I suggest you go immediately after reading this and try ’em out…
