Every year before Eurovision rolls around we like to compile a useful guide to the host city for visiting music fans. One of the best aspects of the Eurovision Song Contest is that the winning country and host nation – usually – changes year-on-year, offering a new destination to discover each May. Last year’s post on Stockholm got a fantastic reception and when Ukraine won we couldn’t wait to explore the country.

If anyone has complained to you about the length of the Eurovision Grand Final since 2011, you could basically say that it’s partially Italy’s fault. The ‘Big 4’ became the ‘Big 5’ when RAI – the Italian broadcaster – decided that following a 13 year-long absence, Italy would return to the Eurovision Song Contest, thus lengthening the run of the final by a couple more minutes.
